Big Ride Day 41

Sandusky, OH to Chagrin Falls, OH 80 miles Next Day Previous Day

Photos from Day 41

Today was a fairly run of the mill day. Even though it thundered all night, we woke to clear skies and cool temperatures. After an excellent breakfast, we got started on what promised to be a fairly easy day. We had a slight tailwind coming out of Sandusky and started cruising at a pretty good speed trough coastal towns and resort areas. Along most of the route, we got fantastic views of Lake Erie. Some of the houses and towns along the lake are just absolutely beautiful. We cruised Route 6 easily to checkpoint, which was at a very pretty park along the way. After checkpoint, we made our way into Cleveland through gorgeous suburban streets. I was amazed at how pretty it all was and at all he mansions along the lake. The suburbs quickly gave way to some pretty scary looking urban neighborhoods leading into Cleveland itself. We saw a Subway and were tempted to stop for lunch but we were scared to stop. My made our way through downtown Cleveland and to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It looked pretty cool but was too expensive to go in ($15) for such a short time. We then wound our way through the suburbs on the other side of Cleveland and they were equally as impressive -- very nice neighborhoods with majestic tree canopies and beautiful parks. The final water stop of the day was at the home of the mother of our official photographer. It was a great little suburban home. After leaving the water stop, we went straight to the camp at the South Chagrin Polo Fields. I gave my friend Todd Hiser, who lives just five miles from there, a call and he took me back to his house. I got to see his two kids, had a great meal, did some laundry, soaked in a hot tub, and had an overall great time. I almost forgot about the ride! It was great to be relaxing in a real home again. I went to sleep contented and relaxed.
